For the month of December I continued my pottery. I didn't make that many pieces this month because I have been focusing on making a cylinder. But every time I go to make one it folds in on its self. Which is okay because I got one really good one. I think that I need to start working on taking pictures before I fire and glaze them so we can see the process of start to finish. The cylinder that I successfully made was the red, white, and blue one.

For the month of January I really started to get the hang of thowing cylinders and bowls. But there are two thigns that I really need to work on. I make the top to skinny when I'm throwing. That means that I need to make sure I'm not pinching it when I'm pulling the bowl or cylinder. The other thing that I need to work on is taking my time. I rush threw the work which ends up making the bowl uneven and wobbled. The top also often ends being curved and waved.
For this project I definitely stepped out of my comfort zone. I had to blind contour portraits. These are when you look at yourself in a mirror but you don't look at what you are drawing. This was very hard for me to do because it was stressful not being able to see what I was drawing or what I was doing. Then we did modified contour portraits. For this you looked at yourself in a mirror and were allowed to glance at your drawing every once in a while to make sure that you were on the right line. For both of these portraits you weren't allowed to lift your pen from the paper. For the final piece I traced four blind and modified contour portraits onto the paper. At the end of this project Ms. Haggerty told me that I had to add some line variation. That means making certain lines thicker and certain lines thinner. This gives it more of a real life aspect.
This was my first and only piece that I did for this project. My strength in art is doing digital art on a computer, not physical art. Figuring out what I wanted to do for this was probably the hardest part. I started out drawing a water bottle, but I didn't like the way that it looked. Then I drew my headphones, but again I didn’t like the way that it looked. Then I was just doodling and I drew my watch, that has anchors on it, as the shaft for an anchor. I really liked this one so I stuck with.
